The Futurheads are set to hit the road for a tour of the UK in the autumn

The Futureheads have announced plans to record a new album early next year.

The Sunderland four-piece are hoping to head into the studio in January to lay down tracks for their fourth LP.

Bassist David 'Jaff' Craig said: "Our management say they want us to do it faster than last time which was 15 days, so it'll be challenge but I think we can do it."

He also said the band are pondering the prospect of releasing a one-off single before the end of the year.

Unreleased material

"We may do another download from unreleased stuff because we recorded a load of songs when we were in Spain last time we played there. So I think we're going to try and give one away," Jaff added.

The band were dropped by their record label 679 Recordings in 2006 but decided to set up their own label, Nul Records, which they will also be working under for their fourth album.

"We'll hopefully record it and finish it in January and get it released in April," Jaff explained. "I reckon we can write the whole thing and record it in three weeks.

"Barry (Hyde) and Ross (Millard) have got about eight songs written already but it's early stages so we've got no proper working titles yet."

Autumn tour

Following their recent festival performances at V and T In The Park, The Futureheads are also planning to hit the road for an autumn tour.

Jaff added: "I'm looking forward to touring again because we played quite a lot of the UK at the start of the year and we did a small tour just before the summer.

"But apart from the festivals we pretty much dashed off around the world.

"So it'll be quite good to come back and show people what we've been up to."

The bassist recently attended an EA Sports celebrity golf tournament at the Grove in Watford alongside Chelsea defender Ashley Cole, Spurs midfielder Jermaine Jenas and former football stars Lee Dixon, Lee Sharpe and Phil Babb.
