Late Of the Pier are set to play Bestival on 6 September

Late Of the Pier have announced plans to release an EP in the new year.

The synth-pop band released debut album Fantasy Black Channel this month.

It scraped into the album chart top thirty.

Since then, they have played Reading and Leeds Festivals and Creamfields.

Singer Sam Eastgate said: "We have a few things we have been working on and it's about taking us forward and evolving in a different way."

The band admit the EP will be comprised of tracks that did not make the album but insist they will take the songs in a different direction.

Eastgate said: "I think everyone usually rushes to get another album out.

"I think you want to keep people excited and updated and the EP format was something we considered before doing the album.

"But we had so much material that it seemed like a bit of a cop out, so we're doing it the other way round."

Early 2009

The band who hail from Castle Donington, the spiritual home of UK metal, say they intent on putting the record out early in 2009.

"It's a spring EP to launch us into the new year," said drummer Ross Dawson.

But they say they have not got as far as actually naming any of the songs likely to appear on it.

Dawson said: "We don't actually name our tracks for a while, there's one called Jellytoes and one called Dustbin Lips."

Late Of The Pier are playing across the UK in October with support from the likes of thecocknbullkid and Midnight Juggernauts.
