The Verve confirm V Festival appearance
Richard Ashcroft
The band have played a host of headline slots at UK festivals over the summer

The Verve have denied reports they are set to pull out of their forthcoming headline slot at the V Festival.

The move comes following claims that guitarist Nick McCabe is suffering from exhaustion after the band's recent appearance at the Summer Sonic festival in Japan.

A spokesperson for the band insisted The Verve will be appearing at the two day V Festival this weekend.

He also said that McCabe had actually cut his finger.

A statement from the band said: "Further to rumours circulating, The Verve's Nick McCabe injured his finger after the band's recent weekend show in Osaka, Japan.

"He was treated by medics at the scene. The Verve will headline this weekend's V Festival as planned."

The band have played a host of headline slots at UK festivals over the summer including Glastonbury, T In The Park and the Oxegen festival in Ireland.

But they were recently forced to cancel a performance at the Italia Wave Festival in July after singer Richard Ashcroft came down with a chest infection and severe pharyngitis.

The band also recently appeared for an intimate performance at Radio 1's Maida Vale studios in London.

The Verve will headline the V Festival at Chelmsford and Staffordshire on 16-17 August. Their new album Forth is due out on 25 August.
