The Music are set to play the Reading and Leeds festivals

The Music say their next single, The Spike, is about addiction.

It is the second track to come from their top twenty album, Strength in Numbers.

Singer Rob Harvey has fought his own battle with booze and depression.

But he insists people shouldn't take the title too literally.

He told Newsbeat: "People think, 'He had heroin problems', but it's just my view of addiction and the way we live."

Alcoholism

Several years ago, Harvey admitted on the band's official website to having a drink problem.

He was soon diagnosed with depression.

He said: "The song is a metaphor. Things like heroin addiction are seen as 'proper' addictions.

"But it's a song about every addiction, whether it's an addiction to food or whatever."

He continued: "I'm interested in the mind and a lot of the record is about the wants and needs and the grey areas in between."

The Music are playing Reading and Leeds festivals on 22-24 August.
