Bestival line far
My Bloody Valentine
My Bloody Valentine in their 'towering cathedrals of sound' prime

My Bloody Valentine are the first headliners to be announced for this year's Bestival.

They'll be playing the Friday night on what will be their only English festival appearance of the year and their first on British soil in more than 15 years.

They will be joined by Aphex Twin on what will also be his only English festival of the season too.

Eighties pop legends The Human League are also playing an exclusive set at Bestival, alongside their old electropop mucker Gary Numan.

Cor Blimey! It's Chas & Dave

They're joined by fellow comeback kids The Breeders and George Clinton of Funkadelic and Parliament fame, dub madman Lee Scratch Perry, indie veterans The Wedding Present and Madchester dance meisters 808 State.

Cockney knees-up merchants Chas & Dave will also be rolling out the barrel over the weekend and Transglobal Underground will be partying like it's 1991.

Foals will attract a younger audience

New Talent

For those in search of new talent rather than a retro vibe though, there's still plenty on offer.

Bestival's stages will also feature Pendulum, Jamie Liddell, Foals, Jeffrey Lewis, Metronomy, The Cuban Brothers, The Count & Sinden, Sebastien Tellier, Two Gallants, King Creosote, Ladyhawke and the hotly-tipped Ebony Bones

One of the most hyped bands of 2008 Joe Lean And The Jing Jang Jong will also be strutting their stuff at the bash, alongside other hot new talents including The Duke Spirit, Teenagers, Crystal Castles, Ox Eagle Lion Man, These New Puritans and Taiwah.

Local boys Bastila

Further down the bill, there's also Red Snapper, Jon Hopkins, Lets Wrestle, Little Dragon, Subway, Imperial Leisure, Gideon Conn, Zombie Zombie, George Pringle, Subgiant, The Restaurant, Cage The Elephant, Vessels and The Ghost.

And last but by no means least of the more up-and-coming talent, the bill features Peter Von Poehl, St Vincent, F*ck Buttons, Drew, Micah P Hinson, Fleet Foxes, FM Belfast, Kitty Daisy & Lewis, Dan le Sac Vs Scroobius Pip, Grand National, Christopher D Ashley, Sportsday Megaphone, Kid Carpet and local Isle Of Wight stars Bastila.

Deck botherers

A host of DJs have also already been announced, with pride of place on the bill going to Radio 1's Annie Mac and Rob da Bank.

Other deck-botherers on the line up include Yoda, Layo & Bushwacka, Slam former S-Xpress man Mark Moore, DJ Hype, Bailey, TC, Sub Focus, Chase & Status and Dexys Midnight Runners frontman Kevin Rowland.

The DJ tents will also feature Yuksek, Touché, Digital Mystikz and Sgt Pokes, Loefah, Kode 9 and Space Ape, Freestylers, Sombrero Sound System and the marvellously-named DJ Derek.
