Brit Awards nominees: in quotes
The great and the good of the UK music world are gearing up for the 2008 Brit Awards.

As the statuettes get a final polish before being handed out to the winners, we've rounded up what some of the nominees have to say about being up for a gong at the UK's biggest music awards ceremony.

Mark Ronson, up for Best British Album

"It's really nice. The cool thing about being nominated for the Brits is just being considered to be British.

"That's cool for me, because I've lived away from Britain for so long.

"It's just amazing to be nominated."

Tom Smith from Editors, up for Best British Group

Editors are in the tough Best British Group category

"It's amazing. It's nice to be up there with the big boys.

"We've got zero chance of winning though.

"We're up against Take That, for God'sake!

"And Girl's Aloud as well!"

Klaxons, up for Best Live band

Klaxons scooped last year's Mercury Music Prize

"We have been fortunate enough that every time we have played it's been chaos.

"We have never had a dull moment as a live band.

"It's quite nice that someone has recognised we are good live as well as what we have done recording wise."

Martin Skarendahl, The Hoosiers, up for Best British Single

"There are a lot of good songs on there - if you look at the acts that are here we are very happy to be here at all.

"I don't think you can really compete in music.

"But it's just very exciting to be linked to this kind of event."

Natasha Khan, aka Bat For Lashes, up for Best British Female

Bat For Lashes was also nominated for last year's Mercury Music Award

"I was really not expecting it - to be on the same list as PJ Harvey is very bizarre and amazing. It's crazy.

"When I went to the nominations, it was a bit overwhelming actually.

"I was completely shocked. You're next to Take That, Girls Aloud and Adele, all these people."

Newton Faulkner, up for British Male Solo Artist

"It's amazing. I suspected I'd be nominated, the whole year has been completely insane. I'm kind of getting used to it.

As for his fellow nominees? "Wicked. Pretty hardcore. Jamie T's definitely cool. I've got the Mark Ronson album but not the Mika one.

"I don't need it - I hear it everywhere I go! Even in America."

Richard Hawley, up for Best British Male Solo Artist

"I've got a funny attitude towards awards really, people get excited about it before it happens, once it's happened everyone forgets about it and goes home. It's a bit like Christmas.

"I don't think I'll win, I find it funny that I got nominated, I always find these things really funny. I don't hang around in them circles.

"I don't mean to sound ungrateful at all, 'cause it is amazing from where I've started off which was just wanting to release quite quiet records, musically as well as sale wise. It's a nice feeling, just not something I set out to do."
