World's first self-tuning guitar
By Kev Geoghegan

Gibson Robot
The world's smartest guitar?
It is powder blue, has flashing red, green and blue lights and is not exactly a snip at around £1,400 but, then again, it is the first ever robotic guitar that can tune itself.

The user simply selects one of the settings, taps the button, plucks each string in turn and stands back to admire his handiwork, leaving the guitar to retune automatically.

The limited edition Gibson Robot uses six presets which musicians can switch to by pushing a button as they play.

An electric history

1954: Launch of Fender Stratocaster
1992: Jimi Hendrix enters the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
2007: World's first robot guitar

Gibson - home to the world famous Les Paul guitars - have been used by scores of famous musicians, including Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page and Stereophonics.

I like it,'cause I'm quite a lazy tuner

Kelly Jones from the Welsh rock band is not too impressed at first sight: "Appearance-wise, it's wrong. No member of a decent band would ever pick up a blue guitar.

"When I was a kid, I genuinely did want a guitar that you could press a button and it tunes itself."

The new instruments are on sale at just 400 dealers worldwide.
