Fall Out Boy performed at last month's Latin American MTV awards
The MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) take place on Thursday night in Berlin and Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy has landed the job of interviewing all the celebrities backstage. He says he can't wait to chat to Green Day, will travel home via Australia, explains why he had his EMO haircut shaved off and says he's proud of Cobra Starship who toured with the band in April.

Are you looking forward to hosting the backstage action at this week's MTV Europe Music Awards?
I am looking forward to it. A, I've only been to Berlin once or twice and I think there's probably some rad things to do in the city. And B, I've never been to the EMAs before so to be able to be there and be participating in it is pretty cool.
Are there any acts you're particularly looking forward to interviewing?
Pete Wentz on Blink-182 cutting his famous EMO haircut offI didn't realise my hair was so important. I can finally see the world out of both my eyes now. It looks a lot better. Not as gloomy
I really want to interview Green Day and hang out with those guys. They're guys that we look up to. They're a band that we look up to so I'm looking forward to that.
Are there any artists that you're dreading interviewing?
No, I haven't seen my full list. I think that as an interviewer, I have to take on that role. I can't be Pete from Fall Out Boy and be like, 'Well, I don't like this kind of music or know about this kind of music.'
I'm there to represent the EMAs. Whoever they think is relevant or important I need to find relevant and important. I'll just have to mix up the questions when it's something I don't know about or it's some kind of music I don't know about I guess.
You've been to lots of awards shows. What are the best bits?
Fall Out Boy released their fifth studio album Folie à Deux last year
The best parts are when things happen that were completely unplanned. When the guy from Rage Against The Machine climbed the tower next to the awards and wouldn't come down.
It's the unplanned things that are the things that are the most interesting. As far as other award shows I've been to, it's cool to see people three feet away from you that you wouldn't normally see, like Bonnie Rae.
Who are you going to be hanging out with this time?
I know that the Green Day guys are going to be there. I've heard that the 30 Seconds To Mars guys are going to be there. I know Katy Perry, we hang.
That's about it as far as I know from my list. They've told me a potential list but I haven't got a finalised one. I wouldn't like to say and then have it not be so.
Are you taking your family with you? I know you've got a new little baby that you must miss a lot when you're away.
Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz had their first child, Bronx, last November
It depends. I don't want to say because I should allow her to make an announcement. But I think my wife (Ashlee Simpson) has some work plans for then.
She, I think, will be with the little one in the States. It'll be interesting because I'm going to do the EMAs and then I've decided I'm going to do a quick trek around the globe.
It ends in Australia where I'm going to be a guest judge on Australian Idol but I'm going to stop in a couple of countries on the way through. Whether it's just to do some press or some places maybe I'll just sightsee.
Are you going together or on your own?
It would be just me going. Andy and Joe, I think, are working on some stuff and Patrick's been remodelling his house for what seems like forever and I think he's producing some stuff. It'll just be me, boring old me.
Talking about your hair, I know one of the guys from Blink-182 cut your fringe off. Is that the death of EMO hair?
That's what they called it. It made national news in the United States. I didn't realise my hair was so important. I can finally see the world out of both my eyes now. It looks a lot better. Not as gloomy.
What do you think of the Cobra Starship song Pete Wentz Is The Only Reason We're Famous?
Gabe Saporta from Cobra Starship appeared with Fall Out Boy last month
When we were on tour together in the States, every night they would play it. The title makes me cringe.
That's what got me and Gabe (Saporta - Cobra Starship's lead singer and bassist) into a pranking war. I tried to put his number out. We were going back and forth with different pranks.
It makes me cringe because it's not the truth. I understand what they were doing with it. They were essentially putting something out there before the haters could say it.
They put it out there. At the same time I don't want my name immortalised in anybody's song.
