Fearne says filling Jo's shoes is nerve wracking
Fearne Cotton is to take over from Jo Whiley on weekday mornings, it has been announced. It's part of a major re-shuffle of the Radio 1 schedule which sees Fearne move to the 10am-1245pm slot, while Jo moves to weekends. Meanwhile early breakfast presenter Greg James will host the 1-4pm weekday slot in place of Edith Bowman. Edith will present weekend breakfast from 7am-10am, while Jo will move to weekend afternoons from 1pm-4pm. Fearne said: I love being at Radio 1 and taking on a weekday show is a dream come true. Jo is leaving very big shoes for me to fill and its nerve wracking. "She has been a massive inspiration to me throughout my career so I have a high standard to live up to. The live music legacy will live on in the new show and I cant wait to get started. 'Amazing time' The Live Lounge, which has been a hugely successful part of Jo's show, will continue in Fearne's new programme.

Jo said she was looking forward to doing something new: After eight wonderful years the time has come to move on and give someone else the privilege of entertaining the nation on a daily basis. "Ive had the most amazing time ever! The prospect of lie-ins, taking my kids to school and doing something new is, I confess, rather exciting." Jo also revealed that the Live Lounge will be a part of her new weekend show. Speaking of Fearne she said: "I think she's fantastic and I couldn't leave the show in a better pair of hands." Gaming news Fearne currently presents the 4pm-7pm weekend show with Reggie Yates, who will continue to present the shows on his own. Greg James' early morning breakfast show will now be presented by Dev, who moves from the weekend breakfast programme. Greg's new afternoon show from 1pm-4pm will continue to feature movie news but will also cover games and gaming. He said: "I didn't think things could get any better when I joined Radio 1 so to move to the lunchtime slot which has had so many great names presenting it is amazing." Edith added: Ive loved doing the afternoon show, it has given me so many great experiences but after five years I believe Ive taken the show as far as I can." Scott Mills will continue in the 4pm-7pm slot which currently follows Edith. BBC Radio 1 Controller Andy Parfitt said of the changes: "BBC Radio 1 must continue to change to connect with a new generation of audiences and this is a significant move, promoting three of our up and coming broadcasters into the heart of the schedule." The new changes will begin from Monday 21 September.
