'Matt Lucas made me laugh so much'

Ex-EastEnder Sean Maguire has long left the streets of Walford - you might remember him for his new buffed up bod in Meet the Spartans in 2008 and now he's set to star in a bizarrely-named TV show with Matt Lucas. Newsbeat caught up with the actor to find out what it was like working with the comedian.

Sean Maguire as Kröd Mändoon

What's the title of your new show?

Kröd Mändoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire [laughs]. I thought the exact same when I heard the title, but believe me it grows on you in some strange way. I still haven't found out the best way to describe it.

So you're the lead character in it?

I'm a freedom fighter in a Middle Ages, Lord of the Rings, fantasy realm type place. I have a band of warriors that travel with me but they're all rubbish, nobody can get the job done. I suppose we're a bit like Inspector Gadget, we sort of bumble our way through it but we kind of get the job done.

Matt Lucas plays the evil Chancellor Dongalor. He's just so funny. I've never worked with anyone who made me laugh so much, he's just absolutely brilliant.

It's nothing like anything I've done before and it was just really fun to do, sword fighting and horse riding and be a bit of an action hero.

Do you have to sword fight with Matt Lucas?

Yes I do at one point and believe me that is not easy to do with somebody who makes you laugh as much as he does. I had no idea because he is such a professional comedian that he would be a corpser so much, like he really giggles a lot. When he smirks, that's it, no more acting.

Do you have to have fancy costumes?

Matt certainly does. I suppose I can reveal that at one point he wears goat pants, but you really have to see them to understand them.

Sean Maguire was talking to Newsbeat entertainment reporter Frances Cronin.

Krod Mandoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire starts in the US on Comedy Central on 9 April.
