The winners of the night clutch their awards as they pose for a photocall. Mickey Rourke took home best actor, Penelope Cruz won best supporting actress while Kate Winslet bagged best actress.
Kylie Minogue was on hand to join in the celebrations at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. The singer will co-host the Brit Awards on 18 February with James Corden and Matthew Horne.
Slumdog Millionaire stars Dev Patel and Freida Pinto celebrated the phenomenal success of the movie which scooped seven awards, including best film and best director for Danny Boyle.
Eighteen-year-old Harry Potter actress Emma Watson presented the award for special visual effects. The gong went to The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett.
Shia LaBeouf presented Adulthood's writer, actor and director Noel Clarke with the Orange Rising Star Award, which is voted for by the public. Indiana Jones star LaBeouf received the award last year.
Bond Girl Gemma Arterton added a touch of glamour on the red carpet. Daniel Craig also put in an appearance and said it had been a great year but there were tough times ahead.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were both up for awards but went home empty-handed. Jolie lost out to Kate Winslet for best actress, while Pitt missed out to Mickey Rourke who won best actor.
Strictly Come Dancing winner Alesha Dixon lapped up the attention on the red carpet. Other winners on the night included Wall-E for best animated film and Man On Wire for best British film.
