In pictures: Twilight premiere

Hundreds of screaming fans queued up for hours to see the stars of new vampire film, Twilight. Harry Potter actor Robert Pattinson plays Edward Cullen, a 108-year-old vampire who looks like a teenager.

Kristen Stewart plays Isabella Swan, a teenage girl who falls in love with Edward Cullen at high school. She joins his class halfway through the school year after moving to the area to live with her dad.

Peter Facinelli turned up on the red carpet with wife Jennie Garth. He plays Carlisle Cullen, Edward's 300-year-old vampire father and head of the family. He's also the doctor in the town of Forks, Washington.

Elizabeth Reaser, who's recently appeared in US TV series Grey's Anatomy, plays Carlisle's wife Esme Cullen. She looks like she's 26 but was born in the late 1800s and was made a vampire by Carlisle.

Nikki Reed plays Rosalie Hale, the adopted daughter of Carlisle and Esme Cullen. She looks 18 but was born in 1915. She was made a vampire by Carlisle after being attacked in New York.

Kellan Lutz takes a photo for a fan. He plays Emmett Cullen, the strongest vampire in the family. He was also turned into a vampire by Carlisle after being mauled by a bear in 1935.

Former OC actor Cam Gigandet plays James, the leader of a group of nomadic vampires who try to kill Bella. He feeds on human blood and tried to kill Alice Cullen before she became a vampire.

Canadian actress Rachelle Lefevre plays Victoria, who helps nomadic vampire James to track and find Bella. She has a supernatural ability that allows her to find a safe place to escape to.

Taylor Lautner is Jacob Black in Twilight. He's an old childhood friend of Bella's and a member of the Quileute tribe. They are people who turn into werewolves but are not governed by the moon.

Michael Welch plays Mike Newton. Twilight is based on a series of cult books by Stephenie Meyer. The film comes out in the UK on 19 December.
