Radio 1 DJ Edith Bowman has given birth to her first child, a baby boy called Rudy Brae Bowman Smith.

Mother and baby are fine and baby Rudy weighs in at 6lb and 9oz and has "very long legs".

The 33-year-old has been dating Editors' lead singer Tom Smith since 2005.

Bowman hosts the station's weekday slot from 1pm-4pm, and presents much of Radio 1's festival coverage including Glastonbury and Big Weekend.

While Bowman is on maternity leave her show is being fronted by a series of guest DJs, including Nihal.

In March 2005, Bowman was crowned the winner of Celebrity Fame Academy, with more than 10 million people watching her victory on BBC One's Comic Relief.

She joined Radio 1 in 2003 and initially co-presented her current show with Colin Murray.

Before working at Radio 1, Bowman co-presented MTV's Hitlist UK with Cat Deeley as well as Capital FM's Cat and Edith's Hit Music Sunday.
