Stars turn out for New York party

Lindsay Lohan, 23, strikes a pose on the red carpet at the Whitney Museum of American Arts in New York. The Hollywood actress was there for a black tie event to honour Leonard A. Lauder, former chief executive of a well known cosmetics company.

The night was chaired by Hollywood actress Penelope Cruz and Donatella Versace (right) and featured a live performance from Grammy-winner and former American Idol contestant, Jennifer Hudson (left). The 28-year-old gave birth to her first child in August.

Taylor Momsen from Gossip Girl wore a flowing dress with a thigh slit. The 16-year-old's appearing in the third series of the show. Momsen plays Jenny Humphrey, who attends the elite Constance Billard School for Girls on Madison Avenue.

Shakira wore a shimmering black and grey number to the event. The Colombian singer, 32, appeared in Radio 1's Live Lounge last month to promote her new single She Wolf. She also performed her hit, Hips Don't Lie, which originally featured Wyclef Jean.

Mischa Barton, who played Marissa Cooper in American TV series The O.C. wore a strapless blue dress to the museum. The British-born actress, 23, recently dated Kooks frontman Luke Pritchard and appeared in the video for James Blunt song, Goodbye My Lover.
