The issues of EU membership explained
![]()
BBC News Online political correspondent Nyta Mann examines the three main issues in the debate over Europe and the arguments for and against.
The euro European monetary union - the debate continues over whether the UK should become part of eurozone or remain independent. Many feel strongly about keeping the pound, but is it good for business and good for Britain? EU enlargement Many other countries, notably eastern European ones, are applying for membership of the EU. There is even a waiting list. But should the EU curtail enlargement or should it be open to any country which meets the necessary entry requirements? The Euro army A rapid reaction force for Europe has been proposed. Is Europe able to sustain its own army and will it bring the EU into conflict with the US and Nato on military matters?
