A series of rail accidents and large-scale disruption to train services have once again brought transport into the centre of the political arena.

On the roads there is an ever-increasing number of vehicles, and last year saw the country brought to a virtual standstill by the fuel protests.

Air traffic controllers are concerned over safety, and those in rural areas want to safeguard their public transport services.

What can be done to improve our transport system?

At 12:00 BST on 17 May in the Transport Museum in York, a panel of guests discussed the state of transport in the UK.

Among those speaking were local haulier Brian Sissons, David Mallender from train operator GNER, Nigel Humphreys from the Association of British Drivers and Ernie Preston from the Rail Passengers Committee.
