The latest figures from the British Crime Survey show a ten per cent reduction in offending, yet many people still believe that crime is rising. Public confidence in the police has taken a knock in recent years. Our jails are overcrowded and the court service overstretched. Yob culture, cybercrime, criminal justice reform, lack of police on the streets - all are topics for debate. We discussed these and other issues at the Bolton Institute of Higher Education. Among the guests were reformed offender Mark Leach, criminologist Roger Evans, crime reduction officer Andy Wright and former governor of Strangeways prison, Brendan O'Friel. |
