Police face racial abuse charges
5 Dec 2008 15:59 GMT

Six Metropolitan Police officers will appear in court on Monday after an incident in which a group of men claimed they were racially abused.

The six, from the force's Territorial Support Group, have been summonsed to appear before Kingston magistrates.

Two are charged with racially abusing the men. Four others are accused of misconduct in a public office.

Three men complained that racist language was used during an incident in Paddington, west London, in June, 2007.

One officer is also accused of a racially-aggravated assault.

An Independent Police Complaints Commission spokesman said they had not been identified because of "concerns" surrounding their names.
