The campaign helps thousands of children each year

Hundreds of organisations are using grant money from Children in Need to help improve the lives of disadvantaged children and young people.

Despite the economic conditions, the 2008 Appeal raised a record breaking £37.8m which has helped more than 700 projects across the UK.

In Wiltshire, more than £310,000 has been awarded to 10 projects in local grants.

This year, Friday, 20 November, marks the 30th BBC Children in Need Appeal.

Pudsey in Swindon

BBC Wiltshire this year are planning to put on a show for Pudsey before Wyvern pantomime star Lorraine Chase switches on Swindon's Christmas lights on Thursday 19 November.

The event will take place by the Big Screen at Wharf Green in Swindon town centre from 5pm-6pm.

We are inviting local children to come and meet Pudsey, have their photo taken with him and tell him a joke to make him laugh - all for a small donation to Children in Need.

Also look out for some local celebrities who will be appearing alongside Pudsey on the night!

For more information on how to be a part of Children In Need 2009 visit the official website.

Also email us your fund-raising photos for our Children in Need gallery.

Where your money goes

A Wiltshire charity desperately relies on funding from Children in Need.

Splitz in Trowbridge works with children and adult victims of domestic abuse and is warning if it doesn't get the cash it needs - it may be forced to close its casebook.

Children in Need money has kept the charity Splitz afloat for the last five years. But now, it is calling on the council, for more. Click below to watch a report from Points West.
