Longleat baby rhino is on 20 pints of milk a day
The rhino already weighs 625kg, 98 stone, and drinks 20 pints of milk a day

Keepers at Longleat safari park are having to feed a baby rhinoceros 20 pints of milk a day to keep its hunger at bay.

Ebun - a white rhino - was brought to the park in Wiltshire from Munster Zoo in Germany after her mother rejected her at birth.

Ian Turner, her principal keeper at Longleat said: "At 12 months old she is drinking 20 pints of milk from six pint bottles.

"She drinks that in seconds," he added.

"That is quite a normal amount - but we are now trying to cut that down and she is just starting to eat some hay.

"We've got different keepers feeding her so she doesn't build up a bond with anybody," he added.

In Germany, keepers slept with the rhino for the first 12 weeks so they could feed her milk every two hours.

Ebun is currently weighing in at 625kg (98 stone) and will eventually grow to four times that size.

"She's a big baby," said Mr Turner.

The rhinoceros will be introduced to other rhinos at the safari park before being put on show for visitors next spring.
