The BBC Big Screen in Wharf Green, Swindon is part of a UK-wide concept in public service broadcasting. Since it began broadcasting in May 2008 numerous events have been centred around it. And the screen offers a regular programme of major sporting fixtures including Wimbledon, Formula 1 and World Snooker Championships. News, information and entertainment are displayed on the 35m² screen in Swindon's Brunel shopping centre. The screen is connected to the BBC's global broadcast network, and exploits internet technology to deliver a 24 hour schedule, with relays of major broadcast events, news, sport, music, documentaries and much more. Family activities and live events across the year include opera from Covent Garden, sports roadshows and dance and music festivals. The screen also acts as a free public platform for local and national artistic talent with regular programmes of film and visual artwork on screen.
