How to submit weather pictures for BBC Look North

Sheep in snow, Wooler
Sheep in snow near Wooler

Your weather pictures are a very popular and very important part of BBC One's Look North.

We welcome your photos for the current month, from across the North East and Cumbria.

While we only have time to show a small selection on screen and on our online galleries, each and every picture gets considered as a potential winner in our monthly weather picture competition.

The winning pictures, as chosen by our guest judges, make up our Look North Weather Calendar the following year.

The calendar is sold with every penny of profit going to BBC Children in Need. The 2011 calendar was very popular, raising over £16,000 for the charity.

How to send us your weather picture

Please include full details of where and when the picture was taken, the name of the photographer and a contact address and telephone number.

Pictures should be in landscape format and attached as jpeg files.

You may want to reduce the size of your picture for ease of e-mailing, as the BBC email system will reject any message over 10MB, but please let us know if you have a higher quality version available, should your picture be selected as a monthly winner.

For printing purposes the winning picture originals will have a minimum resolution of 300dpi and be at least 21cm x 29cm (roughly 10" x 8" or A4) in size.

By sending in your picture you grant the BBC the right to publish it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Can I send more than one photo each month?

A. Yes. You can send as many pictures as you like...within reason! We would ask you to try to be selective: if you have several similar shots of a subject, try to choose your favourite and send that one, rather than send them all.

Q. I've sent pictures which haven't been used on Look North, aren't they good enough?

A. We get hundreds of pictures each month so there simply isn't time to show them all.

Q. I've sent pictures which haven't appeared on the gallery pages, aren't they good enough?

A. See previous answer.

Q. If I've already been selected as a winner can I enter again?

A. If you've won in previous years, feel free to enter again. If you've already won during the current year, then subsequent photos you submit will still be considered for TV and online gallery purposes, but will not be shortlisted as part of the monthly competition.
