Q&A

Place of birth:

Stonehouse, Gloucestershire.

Favourite view in the north-east of England?

Looking over the Tyne Valley after cycling up Prospect Hill, near Corbridge.

Best thing about your show?

Not knowing who you're going to interview next - a politician, a pop star, or a man who's sent a piece of cheese into space and can't find it!

What did you want to be when you grew up?

A lorry driver or a rock star.

What was your first job?

Moving 10 tons of sand 15 feet to the left (by hand).

What couldn't you live without?

Coffee.

What keeps you awake at night?

Coffee.

What makes you angry?

Computers that don't do what they're supposed to. Grrrrr!

Who would you most enjoy being stuck in a lift with?

Felicity Kendal would be nice, but if she wasn't available, then I'd go for my neighbour. He's a lift engineer!

Your proudest achievement?

Interviewing an RAF fighter pilot flying upside down at 500mph 250 feet above the ground and not being sick.

Greatest regret?

Not learning to read music.

Where do you go when you want to be alone?

Out on my bike riding through the lanes of Northumberland or County Durham.

If you ruled the world what would you change?

My underwear.
