Tuesday 22 - 24 December

Chester-le-Street Christmas market

Christmas shoppers in Chester-le-Street are being given an extra chance to get some last-minute shopping for a loved one with a festive market.

Stalls will be selling confectionary, fruit and veg and clothing, along with festive items and last-minute gifts.

The market will run on Tuesday 22 December - Thursday 24 December between 9am and 3pm.

Thursday 24 December - Christmas Eve

There will be a midnight Mass at 11.30pm on Christmas Eve. For more information contact St Peter's Church, Sunderland, on 0191 567 3726.

There will also be a Midnight Eucharist at Durham Cathedral beginning at 11pm.

Friday 25 December - Christmas Day

There is a family Eucharist at St Peter's Church at 10am. For more information contact St Peter's Church, Sunderland, on 0191 567 3726.

Saturday 26 December - Boxing Day

Boxing Day Dip at Seaburn

Register your interest with Sunderland Lions' Club. Dippers (over 12 years of age please) are encouraged to arrive from 9.45am to register their attendance and get changed into their costumes.

Between 10.30am and 11am the fancy dress will be judged by the Mayor and Consort and the president of the Sunderland Lions Club and his partner.

At 11am sharp all the dippers will parade down to the sea to put their money where their mouths are and take the plunge into the North Sea.

Linear coastal walk will begin at 10.30am (walking nine miles), meeting at Pier View/Marine Walk car park (block yard), then going from Roker ends at South Shields pier.

You will return via the metro or a bus and are advised to bring a packed lunch.
