Rescued family's plea for funding

A family from Boldon is urging everyone to raise money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI) after being rescued.

The Granton family were sailing their yacht when the propeller of their boat got stuck in lobsterpot lines near Sunderland South Pier.

The RNLI's Atlantic 85 inshore lifeboat, Wolseley, was launched and quickly located the family. See footage of the rescue in the video above.

Emma said: "We were stuck until the RNLI volunteer lifeboat crew arrived. One of them jumped into the sea and dragged the rope from underneath the boat so we could all be towed back to the shore."

To show their appreciation to the charity they are launching its annual SOS fundraising day in the north-east of England and urging people to raise money and get involved. SOS Day takes place on 29 January, 2010.
