Take That have announced four extra shows to their 2011 tour due to "phenomenal demand".

Two of the extra shows will take place at Sunderland's Stadium of Light on Friday 27 May and Saturday 28 May, 2011.

The five-piece will now play four dates in Sunderland including 27, 28, 30 and 31 May, 2011.

Tickets will go on sale on Friday, 10 December. A limited number will be available at the Stadium of Light.

The other two extra dates will take place at Manchester and London.

Record breaking

Take That's Progress Live 2011 tour became the biggest in British and Irish history after a record breaking 1.34 million tickets were purchased in less than 24 hours.

Take That first played the Stadium of Light in June 2009 on their Circus tour. See pictures of their performance here:

Sunderland AFC chief executive Steve Walton said: "This is a great boost for the club and the city and we are looking forward to hosting Take That for an extended period in Sunderland.

"These additional shows mean that we will see over quarter of a million concert-goers flooding into the city next summer which I'm sure will provide a timely boost to our local economy and help to cement Sunderland as a major player in the music scene."
