This is Derwent Tower in Dunston - more commonly known as the Dunston Rocket because of its shape. The tower block is something of a Tyneside landmark, but now its days are numbered, as Gateshead Council are planning to demolish it.
The rocket has 29 storeys and towers over the buildings around it.
The base of the tower does look a little bit like the bottom of a rocket.
The tower was designed by architect Owen Luder, who also designed the "Get Carter" Car Park in Gateshead. The car park is scheduled for demolition too.
Inside, it is cold and damp. The tower block has been empty for a year and Gateshead Council say it would cost millions of pounds to make it habitable again.
The base of the concrete "rocket". Some people had called for the tower to be listed as a building of special architectural interest. However, English Heritage turned the application down, clearing the way for it to be demolished.
You can see for miles from the top of the tower.
Look closely in the other direction and you can just make out the wings of the Angel of the North on the horizon.
The demolition process is expected to take more than a year and is due to start in 2010.
