See photos of the stately home near Seaton Sluice that has been saved for the nation after the National Trust raised more than £3m.

The history of the Swan Hunter shipyard in Wallsend is being celebrated in an exhibition at Discovery Museum.

It is thought the composer of the new year song Auld Lang Syne may have come from Swalwell in Gateshead.
