Bletchley Park
Local residents, businesses and interested parties are being invited to a special community consultation event at Bletchley Park on Wednesday 8 December at 5:30pm. The event, organised by The Prince's Regeneration Trust and the Bletchley Park Trust, will give the public the chance to view plans for the regeneration of part of the historic site into a museum and education resource. The new plans will see restoration of buildings in several areas, including some of the legendary huts in which the code breaking took place and which are now derelict and in danger of collapse. Discussion Members of the public attending the event will be consulted on the design approach for the museum, ways of increasing the education opportunities and the Masterplan. Attendees will be split into discussion groups to explore the proposals. The groups will then share their findings at an open discussion towards the end of the evening. The consultation event will finish at 8:00pm. Regeneration The Bletchley Park Trust was awarded a £460,000 first round pass from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) in Autumn 2009 to work up the development phase of this nationally-important regeneration project. The Prince's Regeneration Trust were then appointed to lead the design work and obtain the necessary listed building and planning consents and reports for a second round HLF application for £4.1 million. Commenting on the project, Ros Kerslake, Chief Executive, The Prince's Regeneration Trust said: "This is a good example of how a heritage site can deliver economic and social benefits. Working with our partners we're not just preserving an internationally important site but creating a sustainable future for Bletchley Park that will benefit the local economy." Simon Greenish, Chief Executive of Bletchley Park Trust hopes that the plans will attract considerable community support: "Bletchley Park is a huge local asset and we want the community in and around Milton Keynes to regard it as their asset. We already have a fantastic team of local staff who have helped deliver our story and provided valuable input into our future plans , and now we want to hear from other members of our community." Anyone wishing to attend the consultation event should reserve a place with Bletchley Park Trust on 01908 640404.
