Middlesbrough 5k Road Race is an annual event in Middlesbrough
|
The Middlesbrough 'Healthy Town' 5K Road Race and the 2k Fun Run will take place on Sunday 15 May. Now in their third year, the races are growing in popularity and this year the races are celebrating the centenary of the Transporter Bridge. The bridge opened in 1911, and so organisers hope that 1,911 people will register for the two races, making the event extra special. The fun run will be named the Transporter Centenary 2K Fun Run. Runners of all abilities are being urged to take part in the two runs, from elite athletes to small children and pensioners. Both runs start on Albert Road near the Town Hall and their routes pass through the shadow of the landmark Transporter Bridge which spans the Tees. Jimmy Wattis, Race Director, said: "We want the whole town and surrounding districts to feel part of these events, to join in the fun and feel a sense of pride when crossing the finish line and picking up a medal. "These events are really for everyone and with a little bit of training everyone is capable of completing either the 2k Fun Run or 5k Road Race. "They also act as excellent stepping stones for the Tees Pride 10k Road Race and 3k Fun Run on September 4. "We are delighted the races will this year celebrate the centenary of the Transporter Bridge and we know our participants will feel the same." For more information please go to the
