Canon Warner has been named as the new Bishop of Whitby

The Reverend Canon Martin Clive Warner of St Paul's Cathedral, has been appointed by the Queen as the Suffragan Bishop of Whitby.

Aged 51, he succeeds the Right Reverend Robert Ladds, who retired at the end of 2008.

Canon Warner said, "I am excited and awed at the prospect of moving to Teesside to be the Bishop of Whitby."

The Consecration will be held at 11am on 26 January 2010, the Feast of St Timothy and St Titus, at York Minster.

"It was as a student in Durham 30 years ago that I first discovered this to be one of the most varied and beautiful parts of Britain." says Reverend Warner

"It has everything - stunning countryside, a spectacular coastline and the potential and challenge of a stimulating conurbation on Teesside."

The Archbishop of York, the Most Reverend Dr John Sentamu said, "I am delighted that Canon Warner has been appointed the new Bishop of Whitby.

"He is a man of great faith and integrity who has a real heart for serving the community."
