Arthur's first words as he crosses the finishing line
Teesside man Arthur Puckrin is the oldest in the world to complete an ultra triathlon. The 71-year-old has finished a Quadruple Ironman at the world championships in Mexico. One Ironman is 2.4 miles swimming, 112 miles cycling and 26 miles running. Arthur completed four of those in just eight days. He says he'll hopefully be back in Monterrey, Mexico next year for a 'Deca' Ironman... ten in ten days. Arthur finished his Quadruple Ironman challenge feeling "a bit weary" with just a couple of blisters, and big plans for the future... in just two years time is hoping to take on his biggest challenge yet.
The morning after. Arthur reflects on the quadruple and looks ahead to even tougher challenges.
All throughout, Arthur's wife Mary has been at his side, feeding him ice cream, jam sandwiches, and eggs. Arthur says she's the 'best support group in the world': "I would never come without Mary, I couldn't do it without Mary. "She keeps me going. If I'm lagging a bit, she tells me 'come on, do another lap, do another lap', she gets me across that finishing line".
