Ahead of Stockton Fringe Festival I met up with one of the bands from the line up, a Stockton-on-Tees band that have been hailed for success by Radio 1's Zane Lowe:

Your single is out on the 3rd August but what are you actually doing on that day?

Mark: We got a few gigs around that date, every gig that we do around that date is a large party!

Tell me about your influences, what did you grow up listening to?

Luke: Is Phil Collins believe it or not, I quite idolise him because of his drumming style!

Paddy: For me I grew up listening to Dire Straits all the time. I got into Blur rather than Oasis.

So where do you get your inspiration from for your lyrics?

Andy: You can't be too ambiguous with your lyrics, you got to be direct and forthright and let people know what your thinking, give people something to actually relate to and think about as opposed to just saying words that don't mean anything.

Paddy: Every song has a point and every song gets to it quickly.

After the interview I watch the band for a while, you can clearly hear that there's a strong western influence in the sound. Even the build up of some of their riffs and pauses are reminiscent of popular tracks of the genre, but there sound is unique and full of youthful optimism.

The lyrics honest and obscure in the sense that they will be projected differently by each of their fans. If I was is a fantastic debut single it is the most accessible of tracks, with lyrics and melodies that can swoon every lover's hearts.
