European success means that Hendricks is now off to Memphis to perform in the Ultimate Elvis

Stoke-on-Trent's Gordon Hendricks has been crowned Elvis Tribute Act European Champion for 2011.

Over 80 other tribute acts competed at the three-day event in Birmingham.

Gordon, aged 39, said: "It's a dream come true to win this title! It means a lot cos it's the highest accolade for this country and for Europe."

The competition, which coincided with what would have been Presley's 76th birthday, is thought to be Europe's biggest Elvis event.

Official European entry

Gordon picked up a winner's cheque for £2,000. Furthermore, he now qualifies as the official European entry for world title contest run by Elvis Presley Enterprises' (EPE) Ultimate Elvis which takes place in the USA later this year.

"I'm really looking forward to going on to the Ultimate Elvis contest in Memphis," added Gordon.

But Gordon, who shot to fame after winning ITV's Stars In Their Eyes in 2005, might have to keep an eye on a young pretender in the future.

Seven-year-old Sylvain Saint-Simon, from Leamington in Warwickshire, is now at the forefront of a new wave of Elvises.

Sylvain won first place in the novice section of the competition with his performance of Burning Love.
