By Sam Ostrouchow

BBC Subculture has the latest news from the local band music scene in Stoke, Staffordshire & South Cheshire.

This is our page of June 2010 gossip, but, if you have any news and gig-announcements.

News (below) includes mention of South Cheshire's breakthrough band The Gracies, an erotic party in Stafford, and why it's going to be like Piccadilly Circus in Hanley.

Sam updates this page every Friday - so thanks to all of you for the supply.

You can check out the last SubCulture night out on YouTube - thanks to the lads at Spitfire Entertainment for that.

Please keep the bits coming - via e-mail ...

NEWS (and Gossip)

Lost in Manc

Lost Scenes have been mixing with the stars. Daryl from the band told me what the band had been up to recently - including playing a gig on the set of Coronation Street!

The biggest Twit of all (I'm joking...)

Just a reminder that if you can't wait for my weekly feast of music news, then you can follow Rob on his Twitter page - yes, music news a go-go.

The Gracies
The Gracies are the fresh sound of Macc

With good grace

Fresh sounds this week are from Macclesfield's The Gracies. Fancy a fresh tune? Check them out on their myspace .

Rebel Yell

The Boothen have changed their name to Rebel Symphony. That's all we know at this stage. (But they did spend the weekend of the 8 May in the recording studios...)

...and - just a snippet this - we understand that Burton band Strawberry Nightmares are the flavour of the month at the BBC Introducing offices in London. Their chill-out abstract style is going down beautifully with some of the producers there.

Erotic Party Anyone?

On a more exciting note there is a Metal Night party of the 'erotic type' (er... what's erotic about metal? answers please....) at The Grapes in Stafford on 24 June. The Malacitian Metal event will be the second in line to feed the metal scene in Stafford, and is set to appear bi-monthly if you like your music loud and dirty.

A first ---

Yearning to do something you have never done before…? Time to attend an indie concert at ... umm ... a library. Yes, Crewe Library hosted the region's Ian Curtis death-anniversary tribute concert a few weeks ago. The inspirational singer of ultra-cool indie band Joy Division died almost exactly thirty years ago.

Swim into Scarlet from Nantwich, Manchester's Hooker and sMelt were the line-up. Now, we knew libraries were trying to re-invent themselves - but is this the first-ever grunge night in one? Answers please.

Ghost Trains go Euro

Talking of excellent names, we liked Ghost Trains as soon as we saw their name - reminds us of popcorn and funfairs (great days…).

The Stoke-based alternative acoustic band are currently kicking up a bit of a stir, with a slot at The Acoustic Festival of Britain at Uttoxeter (on Sat 22 May) and reaction to the album (which is free to download) which has had over 2500 downloads so far.

They even claim to have signed with a European agent for tours in 2011 (rock on Stuttgart... Calais.... Rimini... !).

PB big weekend

Pegasus Bridge
Pegasus Bridge kicked off Radio 1's Big Weekend

Big news this summer for Pegasus Bridge who played the BBC introducing stage at Bangor's One Big Weekend.

They successfully pleased a huge crowd at the event and were chosen as Radio One's very own Huw Stephen's tip of the week!

Good work boys! Still haven't heard the hype? Download their new single 'Ribena' for free from their myspace .

Are you in a local band who has got the taste for success? Alls you need to do is send us your tunes via the BBC uploader and you could be the next tip to play on an Introducing stage at one of the big festivals!
