Trainee teacher Rachel Rice has returned to reality after winning the Channel 4 TV show Big Brother in 2008.

Rachel was already a familiar face in her home town of Cwmbran as a participant in beauty contests, carnivals and other public events.

As a child actress she appeared in around 20 TV commercials, and in 1992 won her first film role in Night Train to Venice alongside Hugh Grant.

In 2003 Rachel came second runner-up in the Miss Wales beauty pageant.

She won the Wales On Sunday newspaper's Welsh Idol competition in 2004.

Tipped as a possible winner by The Guardian newspaper before Big Brother 2008 even started, Rachel's friendly and pleasant personality appealed to the viewing public.

After winning the £100,000 prize, Rachel has kept a relatively low profile compared to previous Big Brother winners.

She ran the London Marathon in April 2009 to raise money for the Stroke Association.

Rachel was the second person from Cwmbran to enter the Big Brother house - hairdresser Helen Adams remains one of the programme's most popular ever housemates after being runner-up in the second series in 2001.
