Community

Cardiff's Winter Wonderland is up and running this month lighting up the capital with festive cheer. It's advisable to book ahead for skating sessions. (Open throughout November and December)

Music

The Coal Exchange in Cardiff Bay has reopened after a two-year hiatus with a string of big names. Alabama 3, Super Furry Animals and John Cale were among the initial attractions - check the website to see what else is coming up. (From Thursday 5 November)

Jazz trumpeter Chris Hodgkins returns to Wales to play five dates with his quartet, including gigs at Cafe Jazz in Cardiff and the Comrades Club in Pontypool. Chris was a founder member of the Welsh Jazz Society before moving to London to take the helm of Jazz Services UK. He'll be joined by Alison Rayner on bass, Max Brittain on guitar and Diane McLoughlin on soprano and alto sax. (Thursday 26 November in Cardiff, Saturday 28 November in Pontypool)

Arts and Culture

My Other Mother is an exhibition of photographs at the Butetown History and Arts Centre in Cardiff exploring issues of race, culture, experience and memory. Photographer Suzanne Greenslade pays tribute to Willie Mae Wade, an African-American domestic servant who lived with the Greenslade family during most of Suzanne's childhood in the USA. (Showing until Sunday 29 November)

Nature & Outdoors

The Maindee Festival team in Newport is inviting you to help plant trees in Woodland Park between midday and dusk this Saturday followed by hot free soup next to a camp fire. All tools and trees are supplied or you can bring your own tree - native species only please. (Saturday 28 November)
