Six Bells: Roy Jenkins remembers

The Reverend Roy Jenkins shares his memories of the Six Bells mining disaster of 1960.

Forty five men died in the underground explosion, thought to have been caused by a spark igniting a build up of gas.

He told Roy Noble of BBC Radio Wales that he was a teenager living in Abertillery at the time and remembers many friends and neighbours losing loved ones.

A statue of a miner will be unveiled on the site of the colliery on Monday as part of a day of events to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the disaster.
