Colin Thomas talks to Roy Noble of BBC Radio Wales about his book and documentary Dreaming a City: From Wales to Ukraine.

It tells the story of John Hughes, the ironmaster from Merthyr Tydfil who founded a town in Tsarist Russia.

He sailed to the present day Ukraine in 1870 with eight shiploads of equipment and around a hundred specialist ironworkers and miners to build a metallurgical plant and rail producing factory.

The town of Hughesovka (Yuzovka) - now known as Donetsk - remains one of the largest industrial centres of the former Soviet Union.
