Work has begun to turn a derelict dock in Cardiff Bay into a TV production studio for programmes including Doctor Who and Casualty.
Dewi the Dalek, Cardiff council leader Rodney Berman and BBC Cymru Wales director Menna Richards helped get work underway.
Roath Basin is the last major derelict site in the Inner Harbour area.
The site is in view of the port of Cardiff - still in operation but on a much smaller scale than its coal exporting heyday of the late 19th and early 20th Centuries.
The drama village will be located here on the eastern side of the dock.
The site will be transformed into a TV production centre where filming of Casualty and Pobol y Cwm is due to start in autumn 2011 with other programmes to follow in 2012.
