Seeking tales of Tessie O'Shea

Playwright Alan Wightman from Newport is appealing for help in his plans to write a one-woman show about variety star Tessie O'Shea.

Born in Cardiff in 1913, Tessie was a larger than life banjo-playing star of stage and screen, making fun of her weight with songs such as Two Ton Tessie and Nobody Loves a Fat Girl.

Alan told Roy Noble on BBC Radio Wales that he's found a young actress ideal for the role of Tessie and is keen to write a show about her life.
