In pictures: Glastonbury Festival at 40 exhibition

As Glastonbury Festival celebrates 40 years, local photographers who have been at the event right from the start have curated an exhibition of pictures which best sum up the festival - like this iconic image a girl dancing in the mud.

The exhibition, which is being held at Milfield School in Street, features this image of Jean and Michael Eavis celebrating the 1992 festival, which saw the Sacred Space area introduced.

Although this is graffiti by Banksy, the sentiment sums up what thousands of festival goers over the years say about Glastonbury.

Over the years, the festival has had many problems with overcrowding and with people jumping the fence. A new security fence was introduced in 2001 after the 2000 event was the most crowded festival held.

The exhibition showcases pictures from all the festivals, including the 1971 event.

In 1994 the Pyramid Stage caught fire. Luckily a new stage was built in time for the event which saw the Beastie Boys and Radiohead perform.

Photographers Anna Barclay and Matt Cardy took many pictures which are on display at the exhibition which runs until 14th August.

The festival's mainstays - tents and mud - have been recreated in the exhibition to remind people of the spirit of Glastonbury.
