Skeleton stars ready for Olympics

With less than 100 days to go to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games, two Somerset Olympians are busy getting ready for their events.

World silver medallist at bob skeleton, Adam Pengilly from Creech St Michael and skeleton slider Donna Creighton from Yeovil are both competing.

The duo are currently in Canada learning the track.

Adam said he would be pleased if the British team came away with one medal from the games.

"The Canadians are very strong and it's their home track, and each home track is different and they get a lot more runs than the rest of us - probably ten times the runs - so from that point of view, if we come home with a medal we'd be very pleased as a team." he said.

"Anything can happen - we could do exceptionally well or we could struggle. We're working very hard, are putting in lot of effort, so we're doing everything we can to do the best performance."

Bob skeleton was re-introduced as an Olympic sport in 2002, 74 years after it was last an Olympic sport.

Donna, who became a skeleton sprinter after she was recognised at Yeovil College for her sprinting potential, said the team was currently busy learning the track.

"I'm [trying to] focus on the corners to see what lines to take. It's pretty full on, I have a lot to do but I'm really enjoying being here."

Donna added that she felt at home - because it was raining.
