In pictures: Soldiers' Afghanistan

Capt Nick Mazzei, 26, from Ilminster took these photos of what it is like for troops serving in Afghanistan.

Capt Mazzei, who is currently stationed in Northern Ireland, served in Afghanistan with 2 Rifles Battlegroup for six months from March of this year.

He said he does not like returning home as he would prefer to be helping his comrades who were still out there.

He added that when soldiers are on duty, their lives are mapped out for the duration of the tour so they know exactly what they are doing at any given moment. When they return home, it can be difficult to adapt to a more ad-hoc way of life.

Soldiers have down-time where they enjoy the ridiculousness of "drinking a cup of tea in 40 degree heat".

The photos taken are to be made into a book marking the Rifles' tour. It will not chart the war, but instead show what life is like for them over there.

Nick, who grew up in Ilminster, joined the army in 2005 and has previously been stationed in Kosovo. He took up photography after he bought a cheap camera and learnt from press cameramen who are out there.
