Dartboard baffles pub landlord
Garry hill with board of names, Victoria Inn, Shepton
The board was found attached to the back of the dartboard

A dartboard has been discovered in a shed at the back of the Victoria Inn pub in Shepton Mallet containing a list of people's names who had died over a period of 11 years during the 19th century.

The list includes the cause of death for each of these people but nothing more about why their names were added.

Now landlord, Garry Hill, is trying to solve the mystery with the help from local historians to try and find out who these people were and whether they were connected.

"We don't know what to make of it. A lot of people are intrigued by it. We were just emptying the shed and a piece of wood fell off the back of it (the dartboard) and there it was underneath," he said.

The names on the dartboard include the names R.G. Johnson, September 21st, 1849, whose cause of death was cholera and Ed Joe Stokes, aged 25, August 11th 1860 who died of 'consumption'.

"All the names are there and what they died of, we just want to know how they're all connected. It is something that is intriguing and a mystery really."
