Past Olympians are the special guests at the 123rd Wenlock Olympian Games which starts on Friday 10 July.

Tommy Godwin won two bronze medals for cycling in 1948 and was manager of the GB Cycling Team at the 1964 Olympics.

Anne Packer won gold and silver at the 1964 games. Her husband, Robbie Brightwell, took silver and captained the men's GB team at the 1968 Games.

Paul Andersen won bronze in the yachting in 1968. He is currently vice chairman of Special Olympics GB.

At 2pm on Friday the 2009 Special Olympics 'Flame of Hope' will be lit and the Law Enforcement athletics team will carry it in relay to Leicester where the games will be held from 25 to 31 July.

Entries are still open for various events including, bowls, archery, clay pigeon shooting, golf, veteran cycle events and the seven mile road race.

The golf tournament is at Bridgnorth Golf Club on Monday 13 July. The competition will be played as a stableford over 18 holes off full handicap.

Eat, drink and be merry

It is the third Oswestry Food and Drink Festival this weekend with 50 exhibitors, mostly from within 30 miles of the town.

There will be beer, truffles, sausages, cheese, ostrich, game, cakes and lots more to be found in the town centre along Bailey Street, Cross Street, New Street and Bailey Head.

It is not just food and drink, there is plenty of live entertainment as well with the opera duo, Bell'aria who will be serenading festival goers.

There will be face painting, celebrity cooks and the Infamous Tea Dance on Sunday to raise funds for the Severn Hospice.

Music at Leasowes Bank

Rising international jazz star, Ingrid Laurock is performing in Music at Leasowes Bank in Ratlinghope on Saturday 11 July.

Laurock is a member of the Andrea Vicari Quintet and is flying in from New York for the concert before heading for Germany the next day for a series of concerts.

Andrea Vicari has been commissioned by Leasowes Bank to compose this year's festival commission and the premier of work 'The Mirror' will be at Saturday's concert.

Myths and Mermaids at Ellesmere

The Mere at Ellesmere has always been the source of myths and legends and on Sunday, 12 July three professional storytellers will be on hand to bring the tales to life.

The Arts Alive event is to celebrate the improvements which have been completed recently around the Mere and the boathouse.

Families can picnic in the park and listen to the Mere Singers performing in the open air.

There are also activities for the children to enjoy in the refurbished boathouse where the winner of the 'Celebrating the Mere' photography competition will be announced.

The stars come out for the National Eisteddfod

The National Eisteddfod at Llangollen is underway with stars such as Faryl Smith, Barbara Dixon and Sir Willard White taking to the stage. Also appearing are Blake, Honor Blackman and Terry Waite.

People from more than 50 countries gather at Llangollen for the festival which features music and dancing from all over the world. There are competitions, workshops and impromptu singing and dancing.

The event finishes on Sunday 12 July with a concert 'Licensed to Thrill' featuring music from the James Bond movies played by the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera, conducted by Carl Davis and hosted by Honor Blackman.

Camperjam at Weston Park

Weston Park on the Shropshire Staffordshire border is the venue for the weekend's Camperjam. Hundreds of VW buses are expected to arrive for two days of competitions, entertainment, food and beer.

Live entertainment is from 16 Stone Pig, Hogwash and Druids Brew and there is a chance for visitors to DJ their own set.

For the children there is a dog show, trampolines, bouncy castles and competitions.
