Gavin's faith creates a new life
Gavin Hindley
Staff at the Shrewsbury Ark help homeless and vulnerable people

Six years ago Gavin Hindley was a drug addict whose life had become a cycle of crime.

He was in and out of prison, begging on the streets and even raiding dustbins for food.

Becoming a Christian, however, helped him to kick his drug habit and 18 months ago he became a volunteer at the Shrewsbury Ark for vulnerable people.

Now Mr Hindley has a full-time job at the Ark and, against his own expectations, he has become a father.

Six years clean

Hopefully I can teach him not to make the same mistakes as I have
Gavin Hindley

Mr Hindley is full of praise for the help he received when he first came to Shrewsbury.

He said: "I'm six years clean now, just over. It took a lot of hard work and graft but if we can give others the same support that I received then hopefully they'll get a full time job in the future."

According to Mr Hindley he did not expect to become a father but now he is looking forward to bringing Kyle up.

He said: "Hopefully I can teach him not to make the same mistakes as I have."
