Packaging made out of popcorn

Beth says the popcorn can be eaten or composted

A Shropshire entrepreneur has come up with a unique way of getting her food to her customers in an environmentally-friendly way - wrapped in popcorn.

Beth Heath set up her hamper company in Ludlow to cut down on food miles and it went against her principles to wrap things in polystyrene.

She now buys plain popcorn for packaging, which customers can feed to the birds, compost or eat themselves.

Mrs Heath said, "I don't know why everyone isn't using it."

She came up with the idea after clearing up some leftover popcorn, which had gone hard, after a night in front of the television.

The popcorn costs a bit more than polystyrene, but she believes it's worth it: "The world as it is, we should all be going for greener products.

"It's environmentally-friendly, protective, insulating and fun."
