Dawn Pearce's "raw" blog nominated for award

Dawn Pearce describes her blog as "raw" and "painful"

A Shrewsbury woman's searingly honest blog has earned her a nomination for a national award.

The Mum And Dad (MAD) awards celebrate the best blogs by UK parents.

Now aged 26, Dawn Pearce hoped her experiences, described in raw detail in her blog, would be a warning for teenage girls.

She said: "I got pregnant at 14, which resulted in a complete breakdown and I ended up giving my baby up for adoption."

Writing online, Ms Pearce also talks about her breakdown, attempted suicide and finding herself living on the streets for a few days at aged 15.

Although describing it as "painful" and "intense," Ms Pearce believed that writing the blog had been a therapeutic experience: "The stuff I've written I've never really talked about with my parents."

While Dawn Pearce wants her blog to be a warning to young girls, she also hopes it can offer a positive message to others in a similar position. She now has an eight-year-old daughter and is studying for a degree in social care with the Open University.

The winners of the MAD awards will be announced in Bognor Regis on 13 September.
