P.T Barnum

This weekend is your last opportunity to see the P.T. Barnum exhibition at Sheffield University's Western Bank Library.

Barnum was the man responsible for many stage entertainment shows, including the 'real' mermaid, the bearded girl and General Tom Thumb.

Humbug! is a free exhibition, open to members of the public seven days a week. Western Bank Library is open weekdays 9am-9pm and weekends 10am-6pm..

Gerry Cottle's Circus will be in Sheffield's Endcliffe Park until Sunday. The international circus will feature performances from gymnastics, clowns and jugglers creating a nail biting experience. This Sunday sees the annual Whit Fayre at Weston Park. The free family-friendly day will see an array of South Yorkshire brass bands performing, as well as events for young people. Sheffield artist Joe Scarborough will be there, plus classic and vintage cars, not forgetting plenty of food to get stuck into. Nature & Outdoors

The Steel Valley Project is leading a guided walk from Bolsterstone to Midhopestones on Sunday 23rd May. The seven-mile walk will follow part of the old salt route, taking in views across Ewden Valley and Broomhead Moors then exploring Whitwell Moor and the ancient hamlet of Midhopestones, before returning to Bolsterstone.

The walk will take four hours with stiles and steep hills. The walk will start outside Bolsterstone Village Hall at 10am. For more details call Rebecca on 0770 301 7805.

Cusworth Singers present a summer evening concert celebrating 25 years of singing. A Silver Serenade takes place this Friday from 7.30pm at Cusworth Hall. Tickets are £9 and £7. To book, call 01302 782342.

Music

This Saturday Sheffield is to host its first ever anarchist book fair. The event, hosted by the Corporation nightclub, runs from 10am until 4pm. It features displays by publishers from around the country, and various talks including "What is Anarchism?" Find out more online via Bookfair.

Saltimbanco Cirque Du Soleil launches a European tour in Sheffield this weekend, promising a mix of colourful costumes, live music and death-defying stunts.

Five shows are at the Sheffield Arena until Sunday. Tickets prices start from £25.
