A piece of lion art is being auctioned on Saturday to raise money for the Yorkshire Wildlife Park's Lion Rescue Project.

Lion Rescue is focused on the rescue of 14 lions from cramped, run-down conditions in a Romanian Zoo. They will be given a home at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park near Doncaster and the auction will go towards the £150,000 needed for the project.

The winning bidder will also have a behind-the-scenes tour of the wildlife park and will be invited to a special event for dignitaries when the lions arrive in South Yorkshire.

The auction which will be held at 3pm on Saturday 28th November at Yorkshire Wildlife, Doncaster, DN4 6TB.

Help preserve the heathland habitat at Foxhill this weekend.

On Saturday 28th November Sheffield Wildlife Trust's Coalfield Heathland Project will be collecting seed from bell heather on Back Edge, Foxhill, and sowing it on bare areas to preserve this important heathland habitat.

Back Edge is an important wildlife site between residential areas and the countryside of the Upper Don Valley. There are fantastic views of the Upper Don Valley from the top of Back Edge and wildlife such as kestrels and hares to spot.

Meet at the end of Edge Well Drive, Foxhill at 10am. The event finishes at 3pm but you can come for the whole day or just an hour or two. Other activities will include scrub cutting and litter picking.

You will need suitable warm clothes and footwear but all other equipment and some refreshments will be provided.

People & Places

Over 120 people from Doncaster have taken part in a project called A Sense of Home. Now the idea of 'home' is being celebrated at Doncaster Minster on Friday 27th November, 7-9pm.

The event is free and all are welcome.

Artist and performer Jan Flamank has been collecting stories from people about what 'home' means to them - whether a mansion, a house or flat, a caravan, residential care, or maybe even a hospital bed.

The stories are represented through images and music with an illuminated installation of 100 houses made with the participants.

St Giles Church Christmas concert

St Giles Church at Great Longstone, Bakewell presents its Christmas concert at 7.30pm on Saturday 28th November, with Creesbrook Band playing light classical and Christmas music.

Tickets cost £6.50 and are available on the door.

Eckington Fair

Eckington Parish Church is holding its Christmas Fair on Saturday 28th November at 11.30am. Santa will be in his Grotto by midday until 2pm - plus stalls, raffle and refreshments.

Father Christmas will be making appearances elsewhere around South Yorkshire until Christmas...

Santa's Wonderland at Castle Market

Visit Father Christmas on the lower ground floor of Castle Market in Sheffield, every Friday and Saturday, and every day except Sunday from 14th to 23rd December.
